The Fordham Digital Scholarship Consortium (FDSC) is looking for a graduate student worker (10 hours/week) to assist with coordinating the day-to-day operations of the consortium.
CONSORTIUM DESCRIPTION
The Fordham Digital Scholarship Consortium was established by the Fordham University Research Council in 2018. Broadly speaking, digital scholarship encompasses the use of new technologies to advance methods of inquiry and scholarly communication, as well as research on digital technology and media. The focus of Fordham’s Digital Scholarship Consortium in its pilot year will be the intersections of digital technology and media with central components of the university’s mission — cultivating knowledge and wisdom and advancing social justice.
The Digital Scholarship Consortium’s first year of projects and programming emphasize:
- Focus on digital “others” and “elsewheres,” or the people, places, and issues most marginalized in a digital society
- Foster open, archived, and publicly accessible scholarship
- Develop scalable digital infrastructures that support academic scholarship
The Consortium is also committed to pursuing open scholarship— i.e., open access, open education, and open information (archives and research).
Our activities for AY 2018-19 include:
- Hosting Consortium Lunch Meetings and Development Workshops
- Active Participation in NYCDH’s DH Week (February 2019)
- Planning for the two-day Fall 2019 Digital Scholarship Symposium in collaboration with NYU and Columbia University, entitled “Mapping (In)Justice”
- Expand use of the Fordham Digital Collaborative to showcase Fordham Digital Scholarship and promote communities of practice at Fordham
- Develop additional synergies among the DSC and relevant University units, including Fordham IT, the University Libraries, Development and University Relations, and Fordham University Press
- Maintain and enhance support for graduate student digital scholarship.
- Work closely with the Office of Research and Development and University Relations to identify external funding opportunities to support and expand the Digital Scholarship Consortium.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for one graduate student to assist us (10hrs/week) in the various tasks outlined above in addition to website, wordpress, and social media management; community outreach; and event planning (in particular our Fall 2019 conference).
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Prior knowledge of or willingness to learn Jadu, WordPress, Buddypress, and other Digital Humanities/Digital Scholarship software
Hourly Rate:
- Master’s Students – $17.70/hour
- Doctoral Students – $19.95/hour
